I’m getting caught up in the Linsanity!

Jeremy Lin has taken the league by storm and saving the New York Knicks season and coach Mike Dantoni’s job in the process. Before Jeremy Lin got playing, the Knicks offense was flailing with poor point guard play and abysmal effort. Mike Dantoni must have been hearing all the “fire Mike Dantoni” rumblings and in willing to try anything, played a bunch of his bench players for extended minutes against the Houston Rockets on January 28th, 2012, either hoping to light a fire under his starters or finding somebody on his bench that could produce. Even though the Knicks lost that game, Jeremy Lin looked like a serviceable point guard scoring 9 points, dishing out 6 assists, and grabbing 3 rebounds in 20 minutes of play. Fast forward 4 game later to the New York Knicks vs the New Jersey Nets game. The New York Knicks had lost 11 of their last 13 games. Jeremy Lin came off the bench again and tallied 25 ponts, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds in 36 minutes of playing time and helping the New Yorks Knicks to a win. Jeremy was proving Lin-stant offense and Mike Dantoni had finally found a point guard on the Knicks roster that can run his offense effectively. The legend has grown from there. As of this writing, Jeremy has garnered the starting point guard role and lead the Knicks to 4 straight wins, with crazy stats. Here’s his stat line for those games below.

I decided to check out the New York Knicks App to keep up with the Jeremy Lin hype. Sadly the New York Knicks app doesn’t hold up to the Jeremy Lin hype. The New York Knicks app is supposed to aggregate all the content from Knicksnow.com into one easy to use App. The content, video feeds, and pages on the app take forever to load and force closes frequently. You would be better off just opening a web browser and going to Knicksnow.com.

Air Playit is a wonderful app to stream videos and music from your computer to your mobile device. It worked like a charm for me. Once you have Air Playit setup, streaming videos and music from your computer is quick and easy. Connecting to your computer from the Air Playit app is quick. It took me less than a second to connect. Load file times are fast. There is very little buffering time as long as you have good data speed. At 4 MBPS, a 7 MB video file took 12 seconds to load while a 356 MB video file took 17 seconds to load. This time also depends on your play back settings. I used the default settings and video quality was very good.

You can turn off or restart your computer using Air Playit.

Setting up Air Playit is quick, though it can be a little tricky. You might have to perform some port forwarding on your router. The full setup instructions can be found on the Air Playit website. The instructions to set up on a 3g/4g connection can be found here.

You may have to adjust some firewall settings on your computer to to allow Air Playit to  connect.

Easy to learn but difficult to master!

Blotty Pots is a turn based, chain reaction, strategy game that challenges players to fill a grid of 16, 25, or 36 paint cans with their own color paint. A pot or can fills by 1/3 each time it is touched, and players can touch only one empty, neutral, or matching colored pot per turn. When a pot is full it overflows when touched, sending 1/3 of a can of paint into the neighbor cans, making them all the same color. Played against the machine or handed back and forth between two players, the game seems simple until a single move causes a chain reaction of overflows, suddenly turning an overwhelming lead into a hopelessly lost position.

It is a fun game because it is filled with surprises and because of the sound effects and animation of splashing paint. Blotty Pots is an outstanding game because it successfully realizes a simple premise, making it an “easy to learn but difficult to master” pastime. Blottly Pots is a captivating game because, akin to checkers or draughts, it contains subtle complexities and can be played casually, seriously, or at competition levels.

“Blotty Pots has some similarities to the hit game Bubble Blast, because they both feature chain reactions that spread in four directions, but Blotty Pots is not a series of puzzles with unique solutions. It is an unpredictable, two-player game with an unlimited number of variations and possibilities for gameplay.”

Blotty Pots is a fun challenging game similar to the ancient Chinese game of Go. Try to fill the board with all your colors to win the game.

Blotty Pots is nice playing against the computer, but even funner playing against another human opponent. Blotty Pots is the perfect road trip car game. You don’t need data access. There’s no time limit for moves. There’s some strategizing needed. Games can be won or loss with one bad move. Just pass the phone on each turn. Though an option to play another person online would bring the game to a whole ‘nother level. Maybe that will be implemented in a  later release.

I’m currently using an HTC Sensation. I’m fairly happy with the stock battery that came with the phone, a 1520 mAh battery. I would get between 9 – 11 hours with average usage. That doesn’t sound like much, but I’m a heavy user. I’m almost always on WiFi and using apps. If I weren’t such a heavy user, I could probably get 15+ hours of usage.

Even though I was content with the stock battery, I decided to purchase an after market battery with a larger mAh rating. I ended up getting the Anker 1900 mAh battery with a battery charger similar to this one from Amazon. This is about 25% more juice than the stock battery. The 25% is pretty accurate. I am getting about 25% more usage time, about 12 – 15 hours on average, 2 to 3 more hours than the stock battery . The Anker 1900 mAh battery is working just as expected.

Having an extra battery is super convenient if you are traveling or always on the go and don’t have a couple of hours to stop and charge your phone. Whenever I travel, I always carry my extra battery and charger with me. When I run out of juice on one battery, I just pop it out and replace it with my fully charged one. Then I charge my depleted one over night when I can a couple hours alone with an outlet.

One thing to note is every time I switch batteries, the phone will take a longer time to boot up. My phone normally boots up in about 30 seconds. Every time I change out the battery, my phone can take as long as 3 minutes to boot up.

I can get a full charge using the external USB charger in about 2 hours.

The charger can be a little confusing to use. It doesn’t come with good directions. There aren’t any markings on the charging leads. Here’s a great video on how to use the charger posted by a person with the username SalvadorDali on Youtube.

I was a little skeptical the first time I used Scoutmob. I didn’t think it would really work. I was at an Indian restaurant and at the end of the meal when the bill came, I sheepishly showed the waiter my phone with the Scoutmob coupon. Low and behold, the waiter took $10 off the bill.

All the deals listed on Scoutmob are 50% off up to a certain dollar amount. I’ve seen between $10 – $20 off for restaurants and up to $50 off for other services and stores. Scoutmob coupons are only available for a limited amount of cities right now. Some cities have a very limited amount of coupons, i.e. Denver, CO, Boston, MA, Los Angeles, CA while others have quite a bit, i.e. Atlanta, GA, San Francisco, CA, New York, NY. You can sort deals by City, New, Expiring, or Nearby. I always forget to use the Scoutmob app though. I wish there was a way to favorite or bookmark a deal so I can remember which deals I want to use at a later date.

The Good:

• Easy to use.
• You don’t have to buy any coupons in advanced. Just show the Scoutmob coupon.
• Shows a description of the restaurant/store, highlighting the menu and store hours.
• It WORKS!

Here’s the good and the bad for Titan Turret.

The Good:
Nice graphics
Good sound
A lot of upgrades
A lot of types of attacking units

The game can get boring after a while with the endless waves of attackers.
With no end to each level, there’s no goal to play for other than collecting XP and coins to buy upgrades.

NBA Game Time 2011-2012 is a great way to follow the NBA, but not to watch it.

With the basic edition you get scores, schedules , news and videos of highlights for the past couple days. You have to sit through an ad before you watch a highlight video.

Upgrade to Game Time Plus for $7.99 to watch live game highlights and game recaps, live radio broadcasts, ad Free, and more.

Upgrade to NBA League Pass Mobile for $39.99 to watch Live Regular Season NBA Games + all the features of Game Time Plus. You also get access to archived games. Blackouts rules apply, you can see them here. The main things to note in the black out rules are games are blacked out if they are in your local market or if they are televised nationally on cable or NBA TV. So if you’re hoping to watch games of your local team, forget about it. If you’re hoping to watch teams like the Lakers or Heat, you’re going to miss a big chunk of games, because those teams are always playing on cable networks like TNT and ESPN. The streaming picture quality of the games are not great, but watchable. I blew up the picture to give you a sense of the quality to expect. The motion is smooth but pixelated as long as you have decent data speed. I’m don’t get any buffering at 4MBPS. For the price, I’m not sure it is worth it. I would say it might be worth it if the picture quality was better.
