TuneIn Radio is an amazing radio app that puts thousands of radio stations from all over the world in your hand. Catch the Boston Red Sox Game from San Francisco, or a recap of the New Zealand All Blacks game from Portland, Oregon. Not only can you tune into radio stations, you can find pre-recorded programs.

The car mode is extremely useful when listening in the car. With car mode, the buttons are bigger for easier viewing and use of touch commands. You can use the voice search function to minimize the use of your hands to operate TuneIn Radio. The voice search works well. I even tried to voice search for a hard to pronounce name like Jim Gaffigan, and TuneIn Radio found it.

TuneIn Radio allows for a large options of search criterias. Search by location, genre, artists, and languages.

Not all stations are available on TuneIn radio. A few of the popular stations in my local area are not available. The stations are still listed, but if you click on them, TuneIn radio will redirect you to a similar stations. If there isn’t an icon next to the station, it’s not available.

TuneIn radio may not completely replace a radio tuner for local radio stations, but it does a damn good job, unless your favorite radio stations aren’t available.

FAQ:
1. I cannot save the receipt. Each time I clicked to save, result, nothing was saved. It looked as if I entered nothing. What is happening?

This is a bug in versions below 1.3.0 on some devices. It is due to low memory when taking picture. Android system automatically destroys the paused activity when memory is running low so that some of the data you entered cannot be saved. If you experience this problem, please update your app to the latest version. Please report to us if it still exists after updating.

2. Can I export the receipts to Excel and import from Excel?

Currently, we support export to excel (.csv file) by clicking “Export”->”Email” on the “Reports” tab. The expense report (.csv file) will be attached to the email. It is also saved to SD card under the path “SD card/Receipt Ninja/Your Event Name/. If you do not see the attachment, please update your app to the latest version. Importing to Receipt Ninja from Excel file is not currently supported because we store the receipt data in our own data format using SQLite database.

3. Can I keep my receipts when changing from one phone to another?

Yes, you can backup your receipts to SD card or Dropbox and import them from another phone.

If you ever gone on a trip or planned a party with a couple friends, you’d know how difficult it is to calculate how to split the costs. Receipt Ninja is a great app to calculate costs splits with relative ease.

Receipt Ninja does a good job of calculating simple splits. Receipt Ninja allows you to enter all your costs, then reports how much each person owes. Receipt Ninja can track who paid what amount and then spits out a report breakdown of costs that’s easy to read.

I liked how Receipt Ninja:

• is easy to use
• can use the preset categories and can add your own categories
• can pull contacts from your address book or add a person not in your address book
• creates a simple cost break down
• calculates paying with different currencies
• can take a picture of receipts (only for records)
• shares calculation reports via email or SMS.

Receipt Ninja can take a picture of a receipt but it’s only for records. It can’t read the receipt and automatically enter the totals into the report. Automatically entering the costs from the receipt picture would be a great enhancement.

Receipt Ninja will take a little time to learn how to use, but once you get a hang of it, you’ll find Receipt Ninja to be a powerful and useful tool to split costs.

This application provides folders in your home with pretty icons.
Unlike default android folder, this is very easy and pretty and you can change the folder name and icon.
For the convenience, application folder shows the number of application as a badge.

Application Folder is a much better folder widget than the stock folder widget. Application Folder is highly customizable with a better look and feel than the stock folder widget.

Application Folder can display folder items in a scroll view, Windows like view, Bubble View, or IPhone view.

Sort folder items by alphabetical or reverse alphabetical order.

You can set a pin code to lock folders. The lock brings up a padlock screen to unlock. This gets a little annoying, as the padlock takes a while to scroll onto the numbers to unlock. It needs a way to unlock using a key pad. Using a key pad would be much faster.

Application Folder is a nice way to organize apps, contacts, bookmarks, and shortcuts on your Android device.

Smart App Protector is a great way to keep apps secure and protected. Sometimes you may need to let somebody borrow your phone, but you don’t want them to have full access to all your apps. For instance, you’re letting a buddy borrow your phone to make a phone call, but you don’t want him reading your texts. You can set a lock on your texting app. Or maybe you have some sensitive material in your photo gallery and you need extra security from prying eyes.

Smart App Protector allows you to place a password or pattern to access certain apps. Set unlocking limits. Schedule a time for the locking to occur.

If you forget your password, you can set a question and answer or reset the password via email. I wasn’t able to reset the password via email but the question and answer worked.

Smart App Protector worked wonderfully, other than the email reset issue. It was really easy to add apps to the locked list.

You’ll need to download the Smart App Protector Install Helper to prevent disabling Smart App Protector by a manual force close.

QuickPic is much better and has way more options than the stock Android gallery app.

Editing pictures is just as easy. You can only crop pictures in square/rectangles. Hopefully there will be more options in the future to crop pictures with other shapes. QuickPic is very intuitive and easy to learn to use.

Every little bit of help matters when it comes to battery life with Android phones. Some times your phone could be draining battery life when you don’t even know it by constantly looking for a data signal when you think it’s in stanby mode. Or your screen brightness may be turned way up when you don’t need it to be.

An Android app I found to be extremely helpful with controlling battery consumption for free is Easy Battery Saver. Easy Battery Saver allows you to control a multitude of options to conserve battery usage. There’s a few preset modes, but I found the Advanced Customized mode to be the most useful.

Easy Battery Saver allows you to change things like:

Instant Heart Rate is a top notch heart rate monitor app. I compared Instant Heart Rate with a running heart rate monitor strapped around my chest. Instant Heart Rate was able to get within 2 – 3 beats per minute.

Instant Heart Rate is easy to use. All you have to do is place your finger in front of the camera, and Instant Heart Rate will take your heart rate measurement. What distinguishes Instant Heart Rate from the other heart rate monitoring apps is the ability to keep records of your measurements with notes and share them via email or social networking site. The lite version limits to 5 records.

What’s My Heart Rate amazingly works. I compared What’s My Heart Rate with a running heart rate monitor connected around my chest. What’s My Heart Rate was accurate to within 2 – 3 beats per minute. To get an accurate reading, make you are using it in a well lit environment and hold the camera in front of your face as steady as possible. It may take a while to start reading your heart rate.

What’s My Heart Rate should be mainly used as a novelty. There are other heart rate monitor apps that provide more functions, like the Instant Heart Rate app. What’s My Heart Rate measure allows you to share your heart rate measurement via email or other social networking site. Though there’s no way to save your heart rate measurements.

Though What’s My Heart Rate may not be the easiest to use or have the most functions of the heart rate monitor apps available to Android, it’s pretty cool to be able to measure your heart rate using a picture of your face.
