QuickPic is much better and has way more options than the stock Android gallery app.

With QuickPic, you can:

• Change resolution and size
• Create folders and move pictures to folders

I really like the function in QuickPic of being able to create folders and move pictures and videos to specified folders. It’s a shame the stock Android picture gallery doesn’t have the function of creating folders and moving pictures. QuickPic allows you to move multiple files with a few easy clicks.

Editing pictures is just as easy. You can only crop pictures in square/rectangles. Hopefully there will be more options in the future to crop pictures with other shapes. QuickPic is very intuitive and easy to learn to use.

QuickPic is easy to use and once you start using it, it will end up being your gallery of choice.

Givit allows you to share videos privately without having to post to public places like Youtube or Facebook. The sender and receiver both needs to have Givit accounts.

Sending videos are easy.

• Take a video with either your camera or pull one up from your gallery.
• Enter the receivers to share with
• Enter a message with your video
• Check if you want to allow the video to be re-shared.
• Press send
• Wait for it to upload and send.

Depending on the video size and Givit server load, uploading and sending the video can take a few minutes.

After you send the video, Givit will show if the receiver has viewed the video. Receivers can comment on videos or resend it if allowed.

The Vyou Android App is the mobile portal to the Vyou website. If you’re not familiar with VYou, here is the “about” from the Vyou web site:

The VYou web site is an entertaining way to exchange questions and answers via video. Interact with people and exchange meaningful or just questions from the top of your mind. They’ve got a few celebrities answering random questions.

Use the Android VYou app to keep in touch with your VYou profile.

• Video quality is OK. Not as good as on the web site, but not bad.
• Most but not all the functions from the VYou website

A few things that could be improved on the VYou app:

• It couldn’t update my profile video. I would record and upload it. But after uploading the video, it would not show up on my profile.
• You can’t delete videos using the Android VYou App
• Force closes once in a while
• I get the error “Error loading data from webservice”  once in a while
• Can’t comment on videos
• Some video sounds are so low they can’t be heard
• Can’t pause videos

Air Playit is a wonderful app to stream videos and music from your computer to your mobile device. It worked like a charm for me. Once you have Air Playit setup, streaming videos and music from your computer is quick and easy. Connecting to your computer from the Air Playit app is quick. It took me less than a second to connect. Load file times are fast. There is very little buffering time as long as you have good data speed. At 4 MBPS, a 7 MB video file took 12 seconds to load while a 356 MB video file took 17 seconds to load. This time also depends on your play back settings. I used the default settings and video quality was very good.

You can turn off or restart your computer using Air Playit.

Setting up Air Playit is quick, though it can be a little tricky. You might have to perform some port forwarding on your router. The full setup instructions can be found on the Air Playit website. The instructions to set up on a 3g/4g connection can be found here.

You may have to adjust some firewall settings on your computer to to allow Air Playit to  connect.

Veetle is a great way to watch live streaming movies, TV shows and sports on your mobile device. Though due to copyright laws, a lot of the main stream sports aren’t streamed.

The streaming quality is smooth as long as I have adequate data speed.

Broadcasting yourself is a simple couple clicks on the “Go Live” icon. There’s a few seconds lag on broadcasting yourself. The quality of your broadcast is determined by your data speed. On 4G ~5 mbps, the quality was OK, on Wi-Fi, over 18 mpbs, the quality was very good.

Are you dumb as a rock and need instructional videos on almost everything? Maybe you need to learn how to train a dog? Make a bloody mary? Being the life of the party? Howcast has instructional videos on these subjects and much more. Most of the videos are better than your average home video, so I’d consider them professionally done. Most have voice overs and graphical texts describing the process and start with the snappy Howcast Jingle.

Video quality is decent. Most are done in the same format with the same voice doing the voice overs. I was wondering how this worked, so I signed up for an account at Howcast.com to be a film maker. Howcast works by providing the subject matter, script, and voice over. Film makers create a video following the script and subject matter. Then the film maker submits the video to Howcast for approval. If the film is approved, the film maker gets paid from $50 – $300 based on various criterias which can be found at howcast.com. Howcast boasts this is a way for film makers to be seen and get their name out there.

Script writers can also apply to write scripts for Howcast.

There’s a large amount of videos, and some are very useful, while many more are just failures at being comical.

The text only option is helpful if you don’t want to watch the whole video or don’t have sound and want to just get an outline of the instructional process.

Gmote is an amazing app that allows you to control your computer with your phone. With Gmote, you can use your phone as a remote control to play music or videos from your computer either on the computer or on your phone or set up your phone to act like a mouse.

Setting up GMote was easy. To set up GMote, download the  GMote software to your computer.  Make sure your phone is on the same WIFI network as the computer is on. Connect to your computer either by name or IP address. Now you’re ready to play files on your computer with your phone.

I could see many uses for GMote. For instance if you’re in another room away from the computer and you wanted to watch a video clip of Megan Fox from your computer, you could watch it on your phone.  Or if somebody was on the computer and you wanted to play some music, you could play it with your phone. You could also use it as a controller to play power point slides in a demonstration.  I was really surprised how well GMote worked and how useful it could be.
